Sheikh Sultan Meets Birzeit University Delegation to Promote Education

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received a delegation from Birzeit University (BZU) on Saturday at Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. The delegation was led by Dr Hanan Ashrawi, Chairperson of the University’s Board of Trustees.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan welcomed the delegation and praised their efforts in managing the university and developing its academic and administrative systems. He highlighted that these efforts help BZU continue its educational mission and maintain a leading role in serving Palestinian society. The Ruler emphasized the importance of hard work in improving higher education and raising the university’s standing among Palestinian institutions.

He reaffirmed his support for academic institutions in need, stressing that the challenging conditions faced by Palestinian students require strong measures to ensure they can continue their education in a safe and supportive environment.

During the meeting, Sheikh Sultan received a detailed briefing on BZU’s academic programmes. The university, one of the oldest in Palestine, offers over 170 programmes at undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional diploma levels across fields such as science, engineering, arts, business, law, and health.

Birzeit University hosts more than 13,000 students and is recognised for its pioneering role in scientific research, community service, and its strong academic reputation both locally and internationally. The institution enjoys high rankings among Palestinian universities and continues to contribute significantly to higher education and the development of society.
