Prohibition of Gaza Symbols at Singapore Gathering

Prohibition of Gaza Symbols at Singapore Gathering

Post by : Shakul

Singapore's officials have issued a clear directive to event organisers at Hong Lim Park’s Speakers’ Corner to steer clear of any Israel-Gaza related displays or discussions. This advisory precedes a planned gathering, highlighting the necessity for adherence to current regulations.

The joint statement came from the Singapore Police Force and the National Parks Board. They reiterated that the event must not showcase any flags, symbols, or activities associated with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Officials stress that the event should remain within its sanctioned confines without introducing sensitive geopolitical topics. Any inclusion of themes tied to the Israel-Hamas conflict would constitute a breach of the established event conditions.

NParks, overseeing the Speakers’ Corner, also emphasized that speeches and activities have to refrain from touching upon issues of race or religion. Moreover, foreign participants are not allowed due to site regulations.

Speakers’ Corner at Hong Lim Park serves as a platform where Singapore citizens can conduct public gatherings sans police approval, provided they adhere to specific legal guidelines. Authorities maintain vigilant oversight to ensure compliance during these events.

The police confirmed that the organisers recognize the conditions tied to their approval and have agreed to them. However, any violation, including unauthorized displays or topics, may trigger enforcement actions.

Authorities also indicated that strict surveillance will be enacted, and any deviation from the prescribed guidelines could lead to investigations, reaffirming Singapore’s unwavering commitment to public order and social stability.
