Suqia UAE has reached a significant milestone in its international relief work, confirming that its water initiatives in Tanzania have provided safe drinking water to in excess of 1,024,000 people.
The programme was made possible through a grant from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and has targeted underserved rural communities across Tanzania.
Implemented in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent, the interventions involved drilling new artesian wells and rehabilitating existing sources to create reliable, long-term water supplies for thousands of households.
The achievement was announced at Suqia UAE’s third Board of Trustees meeting for 2025, chaired by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. Representatives from DEWA, Khalifa University, UAE University and other institutional partners attended and reviewed progress.
Board members also reviewed plans for the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, due in the final quarter of the year. The award, with total prizes of USD 1 million, will honour innovations that generate or treat water using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro.
Since its launch in 2015, Suqia UAE has delivered sustainable water projects across 37 countries, reaching roughly 15 million beneficiaries and reinforcing the UAE’s sustained commitment to tackling global water scarcity.
