Thai Military Enhances Border Security with New Shelters

Post by : Shakul

In a bid to bolster security along the Thai-Cambodian frontier, the Royal Thai Army is expediting the construction of bomb shelters designed to provide protection for civilians and troops in the area. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance safety amid rising tensions along the border.

Led by General Phana Klaewplodthuk, the army is focused on both national safety and the welfare of local residents. The Army Civil Affairs Department, working in tandem with engineering units and border defense forces, is responsible for the construction of 182 bomb shelters in vital locations.

Officials state that 108 shelters are under the jurisdiction of the Burapha Task Force, while the remaining 74 are overseen by the Suranaree Task Force. Construction has been ongoing since December 2025, with significant progress having been made: 117 shelters are complete, while 65 are actively being constructed, achieving more than 80% completion overall.

The Royal Thai Army has reiterated its pledge to protect the safety and welfare of the border communities. Efforts are also underway to restore impacted areas and reinforce preventive measures, enabling residents to return to a more peaceful and secure environment.
