US President Donald Trump has issued a pointed 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, insisting that Tehran must reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz. In a statement shared on social media on March 26, Trump conveyed that Iran has only two days to meet this demand or face significant consequences.
He reminded Iran of a prior 10-day opportunity to “make a deal” for safe passage through this essential passage. Alongside the threats to Iran’s energy sector, Trump is simultaneously seeking a diplomatic solution to the ongoing tensions.
Trump noted that the deadline had been extended at Iran’s request. However, Tehran rebuffed the US's proposal, labeling it as “one-sided and unfair” while turning down Washington’s efforts to resolve the conflict through negotiation.
This scenario underscores the increasing pressure on Iran amid the escalating tensions in the Gulf, as the US navigates between diplomatic negotiations and military warnings essential for safeguarding international maritime routes.
