Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The UAE has made remarkable progress in social and economic areas, according to a special report by the GCC Statistical Centre (GCC-STAT) for the country’s 54th Eid Al Etihad. The report shows that the UAE ranks first in the Gulf region and seventh globally for social cohesion. This reflects a strong and united social structure. Economically, the country follows a clear path that begins with income diversification, moves toward a knowledge-based economy, and develops future-focused sectors.

The UAE has launched strategic initiatives to ensure long-term growth. This includes the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which aims to use technology as a key driver of development. The country has also created long-term plans for food and water security, extending to 2036 and 2051. Smart city projects are underway in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah, with plans reaching through 2040. The UAE is also expanding its focus on technology, space, renewable energy, and advanced industries.

The UAE has improved its competitiveness significantly, ranking fifth globally in overall competitiveness for 2025. It leads the world in 223 indicators and is among the top five in 444 indicators. The country ranks tenth globally in soft power and first in entrepreneurship for the fourth consecutive year. Its strong sovereign wealth funds act not only as financial managers but also as strategic tools supporting economic stability and long-term security.

The UAE has transitioned from a smart government model to an AI-driven society. It ranks first globally in telecom infrastructure and second worldwide in AI readiness for 2025. The country completed its first government transaction using the “Digital Dirham,” a regional first, and has digitised over 90 percent of government services. UAE citizens rank first globally in digital and technological skills, showing strong national capabilities in technology.

The UAE is heavily investing in renewable energy, allocating more than AED600 billion through 2050. A national green hydrogen strategy aims to produce 15 million tonnes by 2050. The country also ranks sixth globally in talent supporting the green transition. These efforts position the UAE as a leading nation in energy transformation and environmental responsibility.

The UAE has become a regional and international space power. Its Hope Probe successfully reached Mars, marking the Arab world’s first mission to the Red Planet. The country is preparing an asteroid belt exploration mission for 2028 and the Mars 2117 settlement project, one of the world’s most ambitious long-term programs. These achievements highlight the UAE’s vision and leadership in science and exploration.

The UAE continues to make rapid progress in social, economic, technological, and scientific fields. Its achievements in AI, digital services, renewable energy, and space exploration demonstrate the country’s commitment to long-term development, innovation, and global leadership.
