The UAE Ministry of Defence announced that the country’s air defence systems successfully intercepted three ballistic missiles on 4 March 2026, while also detecting 129 drones approaching the nation’s airspace. According to the ministry, 121 of those drones were destroyed by defence systems, while eight fell within the country’s territory.
The latest developments come amid ongoing regional tensions, with authorities confirming that a large number of projectiles have been launched toward the UAE since the beginning of what officials described as “blatant Iranian aggression.”
In a detailed update, the ministry stated that a total of 189 ballistic missiles have been detected heading toward the UAE since the escalation began. Of these, 175 missiles were intercepted and destroyed by the country’s defence systems. Thirteen missiles fell into the sea before reaching land, while one missile landed within the UAE.
Authorities also confirmed the detection of 941 Iranian drones during the same period. Air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 876 of these drones, while 65 drones fell within the country. In addition, eight cruise missiles were detected and successfully neutralised before they could cause damage.
Despite the successful interception of most incoming threats, the attacks caused limited collateral damage. The ministry confirmed that three people lost their lives as a result of the incidents. The victims were identified as nationals of Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Authorities also reported 78 minor injuries among residents of various nationalities. Those injured included individuals from the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon and Afghanistan. Officials said the injuries were mostly minor and several individuals received medical treatment at nearby facilities.
The ministry explained that the loud sounds heard in different parts of the country were caused by air defence systems intercepting ballistic missiles, as well as fighter aircraft engaging drones and cruise missiles in the air. These defensive operations led to minor to moderate material damage at a number of civilian facilities.
Strongly condemning the attacks, the Ministry of Defence described the military targeting as a blatant act of aggression and a clear violation of the UAE’s sovereignty and international law.
Officials emphasised that the UAE reserves the full right to respond to the escalation and take all necessary measures to defend its territory, protect its citizens and residents, and safeguard the country’s security and stability.
The ministry further stated that the armed forces remain fully prepared to address any threats to national security. It added that all necessary measures are being taken to confront any actions that could undermine the country’s safety and stability.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the ministry stressed that protecting citizens, residents and visitors remains a top priority that will not be compromised under any circumstances.
Authorities also urged members of the public to rely only on official sources for updates and to refrain from sharing rumours or unverified information related to the situation.
