The Higher Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, in partnership with the People’s Government of Huairou District in Beijing, has officially launched the 2025 Huairou Great Wall Marathon and Zayed Charity Run. The announcement was made during a big press conference in Huairou, Beijing, where the event will take place on 21st September 2025. This marks the first time that the Zayed Charity Run will be held in Beijing, making it a historic occasion for both China and the UAE.
Distinguished Guests at the Event
More than 100 special guests attended the press conference. These included senior government officials, sports leaders, diplomats, media members, and partners from both the UAE and China. Their presence showed the importance of the event, which combines sport, culture, and charity. The event represents a strong friendship between the UAE and China, and it is expected to strengthen ties even further.
Support from UAE and China
The launch was hosted by the People’s Government of Huairou District, with full support from the UAE Embassy in Beijing. The program included many activities such as video presentations made in the UAE, introductions of distinguished guests, a detailed race briefing from the Huairou Sports Bureau, and official speeches from both Emirati and Chinese leaders. Sponsors and key partners of the event were also recognised for their contributions, showing that this is a joint effort.
Senior Leaders at the Launch
One of the most important figures present at the launch was Lieutenant General Mohamed Helal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Zayed Charity Run. He attended along with members of the Organising Committee. Senior Chinese officials from different areas — including sports, politics, and culture — were also there. Their participation highlighted how meaningful this event is not only as a sports race but also as a symbol of diplomatic and cultural cooperation.
Emirati Hospitality Shared in Beijing
The UAE delegation added a special cultural touch to the event. They served traditional Emirati refreshments during the tea break, which gave the Chinese guests a taste of authentic Emirati hospitality. UAE-based media were also present to cover the event, helping to spread the message of the Zayed Charity Run’s global mission. This mission is now expanding to six different countries for the 2025–2026 season, showing that the initiative is growing stronger each year.
A Race Beyond Sports
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Mohamed Helal Al Kaabi explained that the Zayed Charity Run is not only about running or sports. It is about friendship, cooperation, and giving. He said the race represents the strong partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the People’s Republic of China. This partnership is built on trust, cultural exchange, innovation, and humanitarian giving. His message was clear: “Let us run together for health, for friendship, and for the power of giving that unites hearts across distances and borders.”
Special Activities Before the Race
The 2025 Huairou Great Wall Marathon and Zayed Charity Run will include not only the main race but also several exciting activities. On September 20, the “Robot & Family Charity Run” will be held. This will include the world’s first robot race, a race for people of determination, and a family fun run that celebrates community spirit. These activities will make the event inclusive, entertaining, and meaningful for all ages.
Emirati House Cultural Fair
Alongside the races, visitors will also get a chance to experience the Emirati House cultural fair, which will be held from September 19 to 21 at the Mutianyu Great Wall. The fair will give people an opportunity to explore Emirati folk arts, see beautiful handicrafts, and taste traditional Emirati food. It will be an immersive cultural journey that shows the warmth and generosity of Emirati hospitality.
History of the Zayed Charity Run
The Zayed Charity Run was first launched in 2001 in Abu Dhabi, inspired by the vision of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Sheikh Zayed believed strongly in helping people in need and spreading generosity across the world. Over time, the Run has become a symbol of the UAE’s values of love, peace, and compassion. It reflects Sheikh Zayed’s lifelong commitment to charity and human dignity.
Growth from Abu Dhabi to the World
The very first Zayed Charity Run was a massive success, attracting more than 168,000 participants. This strong start helped the event grow into an annual tradition. From its home in Abu Dhabi, the Run expanded to the international stage in 2005, with the first overseas edition in New York City. Later, in 2014, it reached Cairo. Each new city added more global recognition and impact, making the Run one of the leading charity sports events in the world.
Humanitarian Goals of the Run
The Zayed Charity Run has a clear purpose: to raise funds to support patients suffering from serious illnesses. Money raised from the race has been used to provide treatment for chronic conditions such as kidney disease, cancer, and heart problems. It has also supported children’s hospitals, funded medical research, and given hope to families in need. Beyond raising funds, the Run also spreads health awareness and encourages communities to live active and healthy lives.
A Message of Unity and Giving
The Zayed Charity Run is not only a sporting event but also a humanitarian mission that unites people from different backgrounds. Every step taken by runners is a step toward a better, healthier, and kinder world. By combining sports, culture, and charity, the Run inspires people to think beyond themselves and contribute to global well-being.
A Bright Future for the Event
As the Zayed Charity Run expands to new countries, its impact will only continue to grow. The upcoming Beijing edition at the Great Wall is expected to set a new milestone in this journey. With thousands of participants, cultural activities, and strong support from both the UAE and China, the event promises to be not only historic but also deeply meaningful. It will carry forward Sheikh Zayed’s vision of generosity and ensure that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
