KHORFAKKAN, UAE: In a remarkable display of athletic spirit, the UAE has won the Outdoor Badminton World Cup – National Teams Relay Race, triumphing over China with a score of 60–54 in an exhilarating final held at Khorfakkan Beach.
Organized under the auspices of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the championship showcased top international teams competing in an innovative outdoor format that emphasized skill and teamwork. The final match captivated spectators as the UAE and China battled fiercely right up to the end.
During the concluding ceremony, Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office in Khorfakkan, awarded the UAE national team, signaling a memorable achievement for the players and organizing committee. The event spotlighted Khorfakkan’s evolving reputation as a venue for major sporting events, merging competition with its picturesque coastal landscape.
In addition to the relay race, the championship featured triples competitions, where Brazil captured the men's triples title and China took home the women's triples championship, enhancing the tournament’s international flair.
The tournament concluded with a presentation of shields and accolades to the organizers and partners who played a vital role in the event's success. Featuring 96 athletes from twelve countries, the competition underscored the global expansion of outdoor badminton.
A significant turnout of spectators throughout the tournament highlighted the sport’s growing popularity, especially among Emiratis, as badminton steadily gains traction in the UAE. This victory not only showcased the national team’s prowess on an international stage but also underscored the nation’s dedication to fostering and promoting innovative sports.
