UAE Dispatches Seventh Relief Flight Amid Sri Lankan Flood Crisis

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The UAE has launched its seventh humanitarian relief flight to Sri Lanka as torrential floods and landslides wreak havoc in affected regions, particularly in Ditwah. This latest aircraft is loaded with critical supplies, including food, shelter, and other necessary materials, bringing the total aid delivered to an impressive 89 tonnes.

A comprehensive emergency response team has been deployed by the UAE, consisting of personnel from the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and the UAE Search & Rescue Team, all working under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. These teams are in close collaboration to assist families in dire situations and stabilize the hardest-hit areas.

Rescue activities are on high alert, as the UAE Search & Rescue Team has reported retrieving 18 deceased individuals from the floodwaters. Additionally, they have administered immediate medical care to eight individuals who were injured or displaced due to the catastrophe. The scale of the relief operations has expanded significantly, reflecting the urgent demand for support amidst ongoing disruptions caused by flooding, which has damaged homes and severed access to essential services.

With additional flights on standby should the need arise, the UAE's continuing relief efforts are focused on delivering food, shelter, and medical assistance to families grappling with the aftermath of this catastrophic weather event.
