UAE Unveils New Guide for Enhancing Student Work Experience

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has introduced an extensive Guide for Governance of Work Experience aimed at universities and vocational training institutions across the UAE. This initiative is designed to integrate work experience into higher education, equipping students with practical skills that meet the demands of the labor market.

Formerly known as practical training, work experience will now adhere to standardized national guidelines under this new framework. This effort addresses issues in supervision, quality, and compliance, ensuring students are thoroughly prepared for the transition from academic settings to professional workplaces.

The guide outlines a clear strategy for higher education institutions, work experience providers, and students. Universities will now be required to establish structured plans, assign qualified supervisors, and monitor student progression. Organizations hosting students must ensure safe, professional environments, appoint skilled mentors, and continuously enhance their programs. Students are expected to uphold professionalism, maintain regular attendance, and keep detailed records of their activities in certified work experience logs.

MoHESR will manage the implementation through regular field visits and unannounced inspections, collaborating with the Ministry of Emiratisation and Human Resources to uphold quality standards and prevent any inappropriate practices. The operational manuals and templates within the guide will assist institutions in crafting programs that are practical, impactful, and in line with international best practices.

This initiative underscores a broader commitment to fortifying the connection between education and employment in the UAE. By standardizing work experience, students will not only acquire industry-relevant skills but also enhance their employability, leading to a stronger, more capable workforce for the future.
