The United Arab Emirates participated in the 10th UN Global Forum on Gender Statistics, held in Georgia from 1st to 3rd October. The event was hosted by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) and organized by the UN Statistics Division (UNSD) under the theme, “Driving Change with Gender Statistics: A Path to Equality.”
Event Objectives and Participation
The three-day forum brought together national statistical offices, UN agencies, policymakers, and researchers to share innovations, strengthen partnerships, and explore the use of gender data. Discussions focused on how accurate statistics can inform policy, promote equality, and drive sustainable development at both national and global levels.
Presentation of UAE’s Vision for Women
During a session on “Gender Data and Digital Transformation,” Eng. Ghalya Ali Al Mannaee, Chairwoman of Strategic Affairs and Development at the General Women’s Union (GWU), presented the “Mother of the Nation 50:50 Vision.” This initiative reflects the vision of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to empower Emirati women as central partners in the UAE’s development journey and to serve as global role models.
National Strategies and Global Achievements
Eng. Al Mannaee highlighted that the UAE was the first Gulf country to launch a national strategy for women’s empowerment. This strategy provides a framework for national policies benefiting both citizens and residents, ensuring all women have opportunities to thrive. She noted that the UAE currently leads 31 global gender balance indicators, ranks first regionally in the 2025 Gender Gap Index, and 13th globally.
Monitoring Progress with Advanced Technologies
The UAE’s achievements are supported by the Women’s Progress Monitoring System, adopted in 2021 with the participation of 155 entities. The system uses accurate methodologies to track progress, and the UAE is enhancing it with artificial intelligence to anticipate challenges and take proactive measures. This ensures the monitoring system remains dynamic and effective in linking vision with practical actions.
Forum Focus on Global Gender Issues
The UN Forum emphasized the critical role of gender data in policy planning and sustainable development. Participants discussed women’s empowerment, gender equality, social and economic inclusion, violence against women and girls, and overcoming gender stereotypes. The forum also explored gender dimensions of migration, climate change, and how data can drive digital transformation and improved care systems.
UAE’s Global Leadership and Commitment
The UAE’s participation reflects its commitment to a pioneering role in shaping the international agenda for women. By combining forward-looking vision with precise monitoring mechanisms, the country aims to chart a sustainable and inclusive future for women, aligning with the UAE Centennial 2071 and long-term plans towards 2075.
Through its active involvement in the UN Global Forum, the UAE showcased its leadership in gender equality and women’s empowerment. The country continues to set a global example, promoting policies, innovative data solutions, and initiatives that ensure women’s central role in national and international development.
