Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the European Union, has welcomed the European Parliament’s strong commitment to ending the ongoing civil war in Sudan. She said the UAE remains fully dedicated to supporting all international and regional efforts aimed at ending this devastating conflict. According to her, the UAE will continue working with partners, especially European institutions, to help restore security, stability, and long-term development for the people of Sudan.
In her statement, Nusseibeh highlighted that the European Parliament’s resolution officially recognised the work of the Quad as the main mediation group handling the Sudan crisis. This recognition confirms the Quad as the central diplomatic platform that brings together international actors who are trying to bring an end to the war. She emphasised that this support strengthens the ongoing peace efforts and increases international pressure on the warring parties.
Nusseibeh described the Quad Joint Statement as a historic milestone in the journey towards stopping the fighting. The roadmap outlines clear steps: starting with a humanitarian truce, then moving towards a civilian-led government that operates independently of both warring sides. She stressed that Sudan’s future must not be shaped by extremist groups, especially those linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, as these groups threaten peace and stability. She added that only a government led by civilians can rebuild Sudan’s institutions and eliminate extremism from the country’s political landscape.
Nusseibeh strongly condemned the serious violations carried out by both the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Port Sudan Authority. She said the violent actions of both groups have brought tremendous suffering to civilians and damaged Sudan’s future. She called for an immediate end to the fighting and urged all parties to stop all forms of violence without delay.
The UAE’s position remains consistent and clear: there must be an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan, along with complete and unhindered humanitarian access across the entire country. Nusseibeh stated that the UAE’s efforts have always been guided by a humanitarian-first approach. She explained that helping the Sudanese people is a long-standing priority for the UAE, and the country will continue to support the delivery of aid through all possible routes.
A report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted the UAE’s significant contribution to Sudan. Since the conflict began, the UAE has provided USD 784 million in humanitarian support. This makes the UAE the second-largest donor after the United States, and the largest donor for the year 2025. This assistance shows the UAE’s deep commitment to easing the suffering of the Sudanese people and supporting relief operations during this severe crisis.
Nusseibeh’s statement underlines the UAE’s belief that international cooperation is essential to ending the Sudan conflict. With the European Parliament supporting mediation efforts and the Quad presenting a realistic roadmap, there is renewed hope for progress. The UAE continues to stand by the Sudanese people, pushing for peace, stability, and humanitarian relief at all levels.
