At the Belém Climate Summit in Brazil, the UAE, led by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, made significant contributions on November 6-7, 2025. The distinguished delegation also featured Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Nature, emphasizing the nation’s high-level commitment to address climate challenges.
Hosted in the Brazilian Amazon and convened by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the summit attracted leaders from around the world to discuss vital topics such as accelerating energy transitions, forest conservation, and the promotion of transparency in climate initiatives.
UAE Prioritizes Transparency and Ambitious Goals
In her keynote speech, Dr. Al Dahak showcased the UAE’s focus on transparency, announcing an expansion in reporting to include all six greenhouse gases. This enhancement will strengthen the UAE’s capability to monitor and respond effectively to climate impacts. She highlighted national efforts across renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, food security, and eco-friendly infrastructure, positioning the UAE as a benchmark in integrated sustainability.
She also encouraged global leaders to set more ambitious goals in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and adopt widely accepted adaptation indicators to measure collective progress transparently.
Nature Conservation as a Central Focus
Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak emphasized the UAE’s dedication to nature-based solutions during the inauguration of the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF). As an early supporter and interim steering committee member, the UAE pledged to assist tropical forest nations and engage partners in efforts to halt and reverse deforestation by 2030, in alignment with COP28 UAE Consensus objectives. “Protecting tropical forests is essential for our climate and the planet's future,” she affirmed.
Energy Transition: A Critical Priority
In the “Energy Transition” session, Dr. Al Dahak spotlighted the necessity of a global movement towards renewable energy while ensuring universal access and security. She reiterated the UAE’s commitment to global climate action and the 1.5°C target, supporting initiatives aimed at tripling the world’s renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The Belém Summit, taking place ahead of COP30, provided a platform for world leaders to address urgent climate actions, revisited NDCs, and evaluate financial commitments established at COP29. The UAE’s proactive involvement emphasized its role in shaping global climate policies and promoting sustainable future solutions.
