UAE and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Cultural Ties at ICOM Dubai 2025

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025) marked an important moment for cultural relations, as Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with His Excellency Rakan Al Touq to discuss the burgeoning cultural alliance between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This conference, being the first of its kind in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, showcased both nations as they explored their shared cultural objectives for the future.

Discussions centered on the impressive cultural advancements observed in both countries, highlighting expansions in the museum landscape, including new institutions and significant heritage preservation initiatives. Together, they identified pathways for more robust collaboration, including joint projects, knowledge sharing, and safeguarding both tangible and intangible heritage.

The dialogue underscored the vital role culture plays in sustainable development and national identity. Sheikha Latifa emphasized the need for strengthened UAE-Saudi partnerships to enhance the resilience and growth of the cultural sector. This resonates with ICOM Dubai 2025's theme: equipping cultural institutions to adapt to changing communities while ensuring heritage is preserved and accessible.

This meeting propels the UAE and Saudi Arabia beyond mere neighbors; they are now pivotal allies in leading a cultural renaissance throughout the Arab world.
