UAE Flag Hoisted in the French Alps for Eid Al Etihad

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a stunning exhibition of national pride, the UAE flag was raised atop a peak in the French Alps, commemorating the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This event was part of the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative, reflecting the spirit of Emirati excellence.

From Desert to Summit

Aligned with the 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities, the ascent bore the theme ‘From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks,’ showcasing the UAE’s remarkable journey to global stature. The initiative, a collaboration between Brand Dubai and the UAE Skiers Academy, promotes the Year of the Community and embodies the values of unity and family.

For the first time in 14 years, the UAE Skiers Academy teamed up with a government entity for this climb. The expedition team featured a father and his sons, highlighting the essence of community and collective pride.

Training for Triumph

Ten elite skiers undertook rigorous preparations to face the extreme conditions of the Alps. This journey commenced in Dubai, involving a ten-hour flight to Geneva and a 220-kilometre drive to the Valtourance resort, facing challenging mountain paths and cold temperatures as low as -9°C at elevations exceeding 3,300 metres.

At the summit, they displayed a 3x1-metre portrait of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid alongside the UAE flag. The national anthem resonated through the Alpine air as the team documented this proud moment through photographs, representing loyalty and global aspirations.

Cultivating Patriotism and Humanitarian Values

Founded 14 years prior, the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative seeks to motivate Emirati youth to excel while promoting national values through sports and humanitarian efforts. By planting the nation's flag on significant mountains worldwide, this initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to leadership, innovation, and philanthropy.

The trek in the French Alps epitomizes the UAE’s deep-rooted dedication to national pride and ambition, proving Emiratis are equipped to face challenges and represent their values on international stages.
