UAE Halts New Visa Issuance for DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan Amid Ebola Concerns

UAE Halts New Visa Issuance for DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan Amid Ebola Concerns

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a proactive health measure, the United Arab Emirates has temporarily halted the issuance of new visas for citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan in response to the Ebola outbreak. This decision was jointly declared by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).

The suspension will commence at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, reflecting heightened caution over the virus affecting regions in Central and East Africa. Authorities stated that the suspension may be prolonged, contingent upon ongoing health evaluations and emerging developments around the outbreak.

This visa suspension applies to all new applications from the aforementioned countries. Moreover, individuals arriving from the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan will be barred from entering the UAE during this interval.

Travelers who have recently visited any of the specified countries will also be subjected to these restrictions. Notably, an exception will be granted to those who have spent more than 21 consecutive days outside these nations prior to entry.

Cargo flights operating between the UAE and these countries will remain uninterrupted, and transit operations through UAE airports will carry on as normal, ensuring that international travel and trade are not adversely affected.

This initiative underscores the UAE's ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health and reinforces the nation's readiness against global health crises. Health officials expressed they are continuously monitoring the situation in collaboration with local and international health entities, prepared to take further actions based on risk assessments and established health directives.

Ebola is a serious viral disease that spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. Global governments remain vigilant in tracking such outbreaks to avert cross-border transmissions and protect public health.
