The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the recent peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, describing it as a meaningful advance for security and stability across Southeast Asia.
The pact was formalised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at the ASEAN summit on October 26. It establishes a strengthened ceasefire that builds on an earlier truce arranged in July with the assistance of former US President Donald Trump, aimed at de-escalating tensions between the neighbouring states.
In its statement, the UAE stressed the need to use the agreement as a platform for renewed dialogue and closer regional cooperation. Officials noted that solid neighbourly relations underpin peace, sustainable development and long-term prosperity in the region.
The UAE also acknowledged Malaysia's role in hosting and facilitating the talks. The statement said regional and international backing was important in helping both sides reach a mutually acceptable understanding, reinforcing wider efforts to bolster stability.
Analysts say the deal tackles longstanding border disputes and could pave the way for enhanced economic ties and diplomatic engagement between Thailand and Cambodia. It may encourage investment and tourism in border zones while supporting ASEAN's broader integration goals.
