Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Archer Aviation Inc., announced plans to establish the UAE’s first hospital-based vertiport. This facility will provide direct access for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft to the hospital, significantly reducing travel times compared to conventional ground transport.
Faster Travel for Patients and Organs
The vertiport will support both non-emergency passenger travel and time-sensitive organ transport. Archer’s electric aircraft, Midnight, designed to carry up to four passengers, will operate with low noise and minimal emissions. This will provide a faster, eco-friendly transport solution for patients and critical medical logistics.
Upgrading Existing Infrastructure
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s current helipad will be upgraded to accommodate both traditional helicopters and eVTOL aircraft. This step marks an important milestone in Archer’s planned commercial operations in Abu Dhabi and demonstrates the city’s growing commitment to advanced air mobility.
Enhancing Patient-Centered Care
Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, highlighted the benefits of the partnership for patients. The vertiport will offer sustainable travel options, faster access to care, and support the hospital’s organ transplant program with rapid logistics, ensuring timely medical services.
Supporting Abu Dhabi’s Strategic Vision
Archer’s launch network in the UAE leverages the General Civil Aviation Authority’s regulatory framework for hybrid vertiports, allowing the simultaneous operation of helicopters and eVTOL aircraft. The partnership aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision of a city-wide advanced air mobility ecosystem.
Future Expansion Plans
Archer plans to continue partnering with leading institutions across Abu Dhabi to convert existing helipads into certified vertiports. This initiative is aimed at expanding access to advanced air mobility, connecting key institutions, and supporting both patient travel and medical logistics across the capital.
Sustainability and Innovation
The vertiport project emphasizes sustainability and innovation. Archer’s electric aircraft produce fewer emissions than helicopters, reflecting Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s commitment to environmentally friendly operations. The initiative also positions the hospital as a regional leader in medical transport innovation.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a major destination for medical tourism. The new vertiport will enhance accessibility for international patients, allowing them to reach the hospital quickly and efficiently. This advancement strengthens the UAE’s healthcare infrastructure and global reputation.
The collaboration between Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Archer represents a landmark development in UAE’s healthcare and transportation sectors. The hospital-based vertiport will improve patient care, support critical medical transport, and advance Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for sustainable and innovative air mobility.
