A Ugandan pilgrim who collapsed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah was quickly saved by a medical team after suffering a serious brain bleed, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday.

The pilgrim suddenly lost consciousness due to a cerebral haemorrhage (bleeding in the brain). A special medical unit, already stationed at the mosque, acted immediately.

Doctors treated him within just 16 minutes, which is much faster than the global standard of 60 minutes for stroke-related emergencies. This quick response helped save his life, as confirmed by the Makkah Health Cluster.

After receiving emergency treatment, he was taken to King Abdulaziz Hospital for further care. The pilgrim is now recovering and going through rehabilitation. Doctors expect him to be discharged soon so he can continue his pilgrimage.

The Grand Mosque has a Mobile Stroke Unit ready as part of Hajj preparations. This unit is managed by King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre. It includes a team of experts, like a neurologist, cardiologist, respiratory therapist, emergency nurse, radiologist, and paramedic, and it is equipped with advanced medical tools.

Every year, thousands of pilgrims receive medical support at the holy sites during Hajj. To ensure safety and health during this busy time, Saudi Arabia assigns around 50,000 health and support workers, who work around the clock.

Just last week, another medical team helped an Egyptian pilgrim who suddenly lost his vision. Thanks to quick action, his sight was saved.
