Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced plans for intensified military strikes on Iran over the next two to three weeks, stating that the United States is close to achieving its primary strategic objectives in the ongoing conflict.
In a televised address on Wednesday, Trump described the past 32 days of military operations as “swift, decisive, and overwhelming,” claiming that Iran’s capabilities to pose a security threat have been significantly weakened.
“We are on track to complete all of America’s military objectives very shortly,” Trump said. “Over the next two to three weeks, we will strike extremely hard if necessary.”
Ongoing Conflict and Rising Tensions
The conflict, now entering its fifth week, began on February 28 following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran. In response, Iran launched attacks targeting Israel, US military bases, and Gulf nations, while also opening a new front in Lebanon.
The situation has led to significant casualties across the Middle East and triggered major geopolitical and economic concerns.
Strait of Hormuz Disruption
One of the most critical developments has been Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global oil transit route responsible for nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply. The move has caused volatility in global markets and rising fuel prices.
Trump downplayed the impact on the US, asserting that the country’s strong domestic energy production reduces its reliance on the region.
“We are the number one producer of oil and gas in the world,” he said, adding that the US does not depend on the Strait for its energy needs.
Diplomatic Signals and Warnings
Despite escalating military action, Trump indicated that diplomatic discussions are still ongoing with what he described as “less radical” Iranian representatives. However, he warned of severe consequences if negotiations fail.
“If no deal is reached, we are prepared to target key infrastructure, including electric generating facilities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a message to the American public, stated that Iran holds no hostility toward ordinary US citizens.
Global Economic Concerns
International organizations, including the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and International Energy Agency, have expressed concern over the conflict’s global impact. They warned of “substantial and asymmetric effects” on economies worldwide and indicated readiness to provide financial assistance to affected nations.
Nuclear Concerns
Trump also claimed that recent military actions have prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons, stating that the country was “close to the doorstep” of acquiring such capabilities, though no evidence was provided.
He further noted that the US could carry out targeted “spot strikes” in the future if any nuclear threat re-emerges.
As military operations intensify and diplomatic efforts continue, the situation remains highly volatile. The coming weeks are expected to be crucial in determining whether the conflict escalates further or moves toward a negotiated resolution.
