Vietnam's PM Discusses Labor Productivity at Trade Union Congress

Post by : Shakul

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung engaged in a thorough dialogue with delegates during the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, emphasizing critical discussions on labor productivity, worker welfare, housing, healthcare, and the impact of digital transformation. The event was held at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, drawing together various stakeholders including government officials, trade union members, and industry representatives.

This dialogue was centered around the theme “Vietnam Trade Union Collaborates with the Government for Enhanced Labor Productivity and Double-Digit Growth Goals.” Delegates put forth their concerns regarding challenges faced by workers across different sectors and recommended strategies to fortify the workforce while promoting Vietnam’s economic advancement.

Union leaders reiterated the critical importance of bolstering labor productivity as a national objective. They pointed out the necessity for ongoing skill enhancement, lifelong educational opportunities, vocational training, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to equip workers for the swiftly evolving labor landscape and digital economy.

Issues related to wages and living standards were raised persistently, with many workers experiencing financial strains despite Vietnam’s robust economic growth. There was a strong call for revised wage regulations, enlarged welfare initiatives, accessible housing, childcare provisions, healthcare services, and reinforced labor rights to support the welfare of workers.

Housing was identified as a critical concern in the discussions. Delegates suggested expanding social housing initiatives, increasing availability of long-term rentals near industrial hubs, and enhancing infrastructure to benefit worker communities. They asserted that access to secure and affordable housing is vital for sustaining a productive workforce.

Moreover, the health and safety of workers were significant points of focus. Union representatives urged for more robust occupational health frameworks, improved food safety protocols, enhanced healthcare access, and better support for mental health. Participants universally acknowledged that a healthy workforce is essential for enduring productivity and economic progress.

Finally, discussions also shed light on the significance of digital transformation and AI in workplaces. Delegates advocated for broader digital skills education, increased investment in technological advancements, and stronger alliances between trade unions and tech firms. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reaffirmed the government's dedication to uplifting labor conditions, enhancing worker support, and fostering opportunities that align with Vietnam’s long-term development plans.
