New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is expected to make his international return during the ODI series against England, which begins on October 26 in Tauranga. The star batter has been recovering from a minor medical issue and is currently working on regaining full fitness. His return is highly anticipated as the Black Caps prepare for a busy home season that includes both T20 and ODI matches against England, followed by a tour from the West Indies.
Santner Returns to Lead in T20 Series
All-rounder Mitchell Santner will captain the side in the upcoming three-match T20 series against England, starting Saturday at Hagley Park in Christchurch, which has already sold out. Santner recently returned after abdominal surgery and is eager to lead the team again. Head coach Rob Walter praised Santner’s leadership and said his experience as one of the best white-ball spinners in world cricket will be invaluable for the squad.
Ravindra Back After Facial Injury
Young batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra also makes his return to the squad after missing the recent series against Australia due to a facial injury sustained in training. His comeback strengthens New Zealand’s batting lineup and provides more balance to the team. Coach Walter expressed his delight at Ravindra’s return, saying, “It’s nice to welcome back Rachin, who was unlucky to miss out on Australia. He’s really excited for this series.”
Sears Ruled Out with Hamstring Tear
Fast bowler Ben Sears will miss the series after suffering a hamstring injury during training last week. An MRI confirmed a hamstring tear that will require three to four weeks of recovery. The setback means Sears will not feature against England, but the team hopes to have him back soon. Walter wished the pacer a speedy recovery, noting that Sears remains an important part of New Zealand’s future bowling plans.
Neesham Keeps All-Rounder Role
Experienced all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, who replaced Ravindra in the squad against Australia, retains his place for the England series. Neesham brings power hitting and useful seam bowling options to the team. He will be joined by a strong pace unit that includes Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, and Kyle Jamieson. This bowling combination offers both speed and control, giving the team depth in attack.
Bracewell and Santner Lead Spin Department
In the spin section, Michael Bracewell joins captain Santner, while Ish Sodhi has missed selection for this series. Bracewell’s return adds flexibility to the bowling lineup, as he can bat in the middle order and contribute with the ball. The duo of Santner and Bracewell will be key in exploiting spin-friendly conditions and restricting England’s aggressive batting style.
Seifert to Continue as Wicketkeeper
Tim Seifert will once again take the gloves as the team’s wicketkeeper. He remains a vital part of New Zealand’s T20 setup and joins a familiar batting lineup that featured against Australia. Alongside Seifert, the batting core includes Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, and Tim Robinson, providing the team with solid top and middle-order options.
Coach Rob Walter on Facing England
Head coach Rob Walter said the upcoming T20 series is an important step for the team as they continue to prepare for future tournaments. “Fresh from taking on Australia, it’s great to have another world-class team on our shores,” Walter said. “We know how exciting England’s T20 side can be, and our players are ready to take on that challenge.”
He also praised the local support, adding, “It’s awesome to hear the first game at Hagley Oval is about to sell out. It will be a fantastic occasion to start the series on Saturday night.”
Focus on Fitness and Preparation
Walter also updated on Williamson’s recovery, noting that the team decided to give the captain more time to regain full fitness. “Kane had to overcome a minor medical issue in the past month, and we agreed he needs a bit more time to get physically ready. We hope these two weeks will prepare him well for the ODIs and the West Indies series,” he said.

Excitement Builds Ahead of the Series
The upcoming T20 series promises exciting cricket as New Zealand takes on England’s explosive lineup, led by stars like Harry Brook. Fans are eagerly awaiting the matches, and full crowds are expected in every venue. With the return of key players and the goal of refining combinations ahead of major tournaments, this series marks another key step in the Black Caps’ journey toward consistent international success.
