British YouTuber Miles Routledge, who is popularly known as Lord Miles, recently made headlines around the world after successfully tracking down his stolen AirPods — a full year after they went missing. What made this story even more unusual is that he traveled all the way to Pakistan to get them back.
Miles, 24, lost his AirPods in a hotel room in Dubai last year. For months, he had no clue where they were, until he used Apple’s Find My app, which helps users locate lost Apple devices. To his surprise, the app showed that the AirPods were now in Jhelum, a town in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
He shared the discovery with his followers on social media back in May, saying, “They got stolen from my hotel in Dubai and made their way to Pakistan. I enabled Lost Mode and kept playing the ‘find me’ noise every time the person used them.” He added, “I’m going to get a police officer and storm the area, get back my AirPods, and film it all. I don’t like thieves.”
Soon after, the post went viral. The Pakistan Police in Jhelum took notice and formed a team to investigate the matter. They checked locals who had recently returned from Dubai. Eventually, they found a man who admitted he had the AirPods. However, he claimed he bought them from an Indian man while he was in Dubai and didn’t know they were stolen.
Miles had already contacted local police, telling them he would travel to Pakistan himself to retrieve the device. Once he arrived, he was treated like a celebrity. “There were 20 cameramen and journalists from every major Pakistani news channel. It turns out this is a national news story, and half of Pakistan knows about it!” he shared in one of his social media posts.
The police also treated him to lunch at a restaurant called “Second Wife.” He said, “I asked a random Pakistani on the street, and they knew about my stolen AirPods. I’ve been recognised several times by strangers!”
Finally, he was reunited with his long-lost AirPods, and he thanked the Pakistani police for their help. “An announcement from the Pakistan Jhelum Police Chief, the Inspector General and Lord Miles regarding the stolen AirPods. I have my AirPods back after 1 year,” he wrote, celebrating the unusual end to the year-long journey.
While many online found the story amusing, others praised the police for their quick action and appreciated Miles for his persistence. The unique case not only brought back a lost gadget but also brought a light-hearted moment of international cooperation and viral fame.
