In a remarkable cultural event, the Zayed National Museum, representing the UAE's national heritage and the centerpiece of the Saadiyat Cultural District, has officially opened to the public today. This highly anticipated facility encapsulates centuries of history through archaeological treasures and narratives that define the nation.
Visitors commence their exploration at the expansive 600-metre Al Masar Garden, an outdoor exhibit that initiates the captivating journey ahead. Throughout six permanent galleries, the museum unfolds the UAE's history, tracing human presence from its earliest days to the communities and trade routes that contributed to the region's character. Over 1,500 items, including archaeological relics, historical artifacts, and interactive multimedia displays, offer insights into 300,000 years of human existence in this land.
One gallery is dedicated to the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, illustrating his influential role alongside the development of the nation he envisioned. The museum emphasizes his principles as a lens through which the UAE's cultural foundation can be appreciated, uniting the seven emirates in shared heritage.
The museum, designed by acclaimed architect Lord Norman Foster, adds to the ongoing cultural evolution in the UAE, following the recent launches of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. This reinforces Saadiyat Cultural District's position as a burgeoning global cultural epicenter.
In celebration of its inauguration, the museum is hosting a month-long series of performances and family-oriented activities themed “Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy.” This includes traditional Razfa and Naashat dances, poetry readings, Taghrooda music, Nahma seafaring chants, and the Nadba mountain call, all designed to celebrate Emirati culture within its indoor and outdoor areas. An immersive Gahwa experience created with Bait Al Gahwa enhances the cultural ambiance, complemented by craft workshops and guided tours that invite hands-on discovery. Please note that advance reservations are necessary for workshops and tours.
Guests can also visit Al Nagwa Boutique, where they can find gifts inspired by the museum's themes. Dining options include the signature Erth Restaurant, Al Ghaf Café, and the Garden Cafés, providing various places to relax after their museum visit.
Tickets and annual memberships are now available on the museum's official website, heralding a new era in the preservation and sharing of the UAE's rich narrative with the world.
