350 kg of Explosives and Rifle Discovered Near Delhi; Two Doctors Arrested

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A significant security breakthrough occurred near the capital, with authorities uncovering 350 kilograms of explosives and an assault rifle in Faridabad, Haryana. The find followed the arrest of two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir, shedding light on an unsettling connection between healthcare professionals and alleged terrorist activities.

Officials stated that a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana police led to this discovery, spurred by critical leads from the interrogation of Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, who was detained last week in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Originally hailing from Anantnag, Rather was taken into custody for reportedly posting pro-Jaish-e-Mohammed material in Srinagar.

Investigation revealed that Rather was in contact with Dr. Mujammil Shakeel from Pulwama, who was employed at Al-Falah Hospital in Faridabad. Following Rather’s statements, police recovered 350 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate explosives, along with 20 timers, a pistol, three magazines, a walkie-talkie, and an AK-47 rifle.

Previously, Jammu and Kashmir police had seized an AK-47 and ammunition from Rather's locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, where he was formerly employed. Both individuals are under investigation for their suspected affiliations with terror groups.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta confirmed the recovery, noting that such a significant find close to Delhi is alarming. “We are working in collaboration with intelligence agencies to investigate this matter,” he remarked.

Sources indicate that the explosives might have been intended for a larger scale attack, although the details of the plan are still unclear. Investigators are examining how such a large quantity of explosives could have evaded detection so close to Delhi.

This incident highlights alarming trends of educated professionals getting involved in extremist activities. The two doctors are being interrogated under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act.

In light of the seizure, security forces have heightened surveillance in and around the National Capital Region, while forensic teams are analyzing the explosives to ascertain their composition.

Authorities have also stated that further raids are ongoing to identify other possible individuals connected to this case.
