The 43rd session of the Arab Permanent Technical Committee for Statistics commenced today in Muscat, bringing together senior officials from Arab statistical organizations and representatives of international statistical bodies. The agenda also included presentations on successful national digital transformation programs and emerging applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in statistical analysis, highlighting the importance of modern technologies in improving data accuracy and decision-making.
Oman Emphasizes Strategic Importance
Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), underscored the strategic significance of the meeting. He stated, “This session provides a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and alignment with global advancements in statistical methodologies and digital transformation.”
He emphasized the need for integrated approaches among Arab statistical agencies, including data production, analytical capabilities, and the development of unified regional databases, to strengthen the Arab world’s representation in international statistical indicators.

Dr. Al Barwani reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting unified statistical standards and implementing international best practices across Arab countries. He noted that accurate and reliable statistical systems are essential for knowledge-based economic development and are fully aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Role of the Arab Technical Committee
The Permanent Technical Committee for Statistics, operating under the Arab League framework, gathers heads of statistical agencies from member states.
