Eid Al Etihad Rowing Race: A Maritime Celebration in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Bianca Haleem

On 3 December 2025, Abu Dhabi will embrace a celebration of tradition and camaraderie as it hosts the Eid Al Etihad 40ft Rowing Race. This event marks the UAE’s 54th Eid Al Etihad and promises a thrilling showdown that highlights the country’s rich sailing history.

This year’s race is particularly special as it coincides with the announcement of the Zayed National Museum’s opening in the Saadiyat Cultural District. Participants will navigate a three nautical mile course that initiates from Reem Island, featuring noteworthy sites like the Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum, before concluding near the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

With 68 boats and 1,156 sailors participating across four heats representing the colors of the UAE flag, the competition is fierce. The total prize pool for the event exceeds AED2.4 million, with individual round winners receiving AED80,000 and a golden boat replica, AED70,000 and a silver replica for second place, and AED60,000 along with a bronze replica for third, plus additional rewards for others.

Beyond just athleticism, the race exemplifies Emirati values like teamwork, resilience, and community involvement. It acts as a bridge across generations, linking seasoned sailors with newer enthusiasts, and serves as a vibrant expression of national pride on the waters.

The Eid Al Etihad Rowing Race embodies Abu Dhabi’s dedication to safeguarding traditional marine sports while delivering a memorable and joyous experience, bringing together citizens and residents in celebration.
