In a notable achievement, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), in collaboration with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has announced that over 350,000 residents have received their flu vaccine as part of the seasonal campaign for 2025–2026. This significant uptick marks one of the highest vaccination rates observed in recent years, underscoring a commitment to community health.
Running from September 2025 through March 2026, this initiative reflects Abu Dhabi's strategic focus on flu prevention, aimed at safeguarding high-risk groups and bolstering community immunity during peak winter months. Compared to the 2022–2023 season, which reported 162,761 vaccinated individuals, this year's participation has more than doubled.
To facilitate access, ADPHC has deployed outreach teams at various venues including malls, majlis, workplaces, embassies, and government establishments, complemented by awareness campaigns. Regular activations in malls across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, alongside local majlis sessions, enhance the campaign's influence, prioritizing elderly individuals, children, pregnant women, those with chronic ailments, and frontline workers.
Personal prevention strategies are also emphasized, including frequent handwashing, covering mouth and nose during coughs or sneezes, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and staying home when feeling unwell. Together with vaccination, these practices are effective in curbing flu transmission.
Preliminary health reports suggest that unvaccinated individuals—particularly older adults, children, and those with ongoing health issues—constitute the majority of hospital admissions for flu-related complications. This parallels global findings, highlighting the vaccine's role in preventing serious illnesses.
HE Dr Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, remarked: “Achieving over 350,000 vaccinations is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s dedication to health prevention and community wellbeing. We strongly urge everyone to get vaccinated to safeguard themselves and their loved ones.”
Seasonal influenza remains a leading global respiratory illness. Annual vaccinations are regarded as the most effective approach to minimize illness, complications, and healthcare strain. Abu Dhabi provides updated vaccines in alignment with international health guidelines.
Residents can access flu vaccinations at designated primary health facilities or through community booths set up throughout the emirate. ADPHC plans to keep expanding its outreach efforts, monitoring disease trends, and collaborating with partners to bolster public health readiness.
