Abu Dhabi Marine Club Leads UAE’s Water Sports Growth

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club was established in 2022 under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. Since its creation, it has quickly grown into one of the leading sports institutions in the UAE and across the region. The club plays a central role in organising major sports competitions while also focusing on developing young athletes who can represent the UAE at international stages, including the Olympic Games. Its foundation highlights Abu Dhabi’s continuous investment in the sports sector and its ambition to become a global centre for sporting excellence.

A Vision for Sporting Excellence

The club works with a clear and structured strategy designed to promote water sports across the community. Its main focus is divided into three key programmes — promoting sports culture and swimming education, building and training professional teams, and launching community sports initiatives. This comprehensive approach ensures that every participant, from beginners to professionals, finds the right environment to train, learn, and grow within the sport.

Wide Range of Water Disciplines

The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club supports a broad range of aquatic disciplines. These include swimming, water polo, freediving, artistic swimming, open-water swimming, underwater hockey, and finswimming. Each sport receives dedicated training and attention from qualified coaches and instructors. The club’s aim is not only to enhance skill levels but also to raise the UAE’s profile in international water sports competitions. Through regular practice sessions and competitions, athletes are prepared to perform at their best both locally and abroad.

Promoting Inclusion and Participation

Inclusivity is one of the most important values of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The club welcomes people of all ages and abilities to participate in its various programmes. Special attention is given to People of Determination, ensuring they have equal access to sports education and training facilities. Through workshops, educational camps, and awareness programmes, the club promotes a strong culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect. These efforts help strengthen the overall sports community while inspiring future generations.

Hosting Major International Events

The club has also gained international recognition for its ability to successfully organise world-class sporting events. In November 2025, it will host two major finswimming competitions — the CMAS UAE Finswimming Development Cup 2025 and the 2025 CMAS World Cup Finswimming Indoor. These prestigious tournaments reflect the trust and confidence of international sports organisations in Abu Dhabi’s capacity to manage large-scale events. Hosting such championships not only boosts the UAE’s reputation but also encourages greater local participation in water sports.

Developing Future UAE Champions

Beyond events and programmes, the club’s mission is deeply rooted in preparing athletes for long-term success. Young swimmers and divers are trained under expert supervision with the goal of representing the UAE in future regional and global tournaments. By combining education, discipline, and high-level training, the club provides an ideal environment for nurturing the next generation of champions. Its ongoing efforts are a key part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to make the emirate a hub of sports talent and international competition.

The progress of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club reflects the emirate’s vision of becoming a global destination for sports and physical activity. Through continuous development, the club not only improves the country’s athletic performance but also supports the community’s health and wellbeing. By promoting values like teamwork, determination, and inclusion, the club is helping to build a stronger sporting culture across the UAE. Its achievements show how dedication and vision can transform local initiatives into global success stories.
