The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi successfully completed a trial for parcel delivery using drones. The project was done in collaboration with LODD Autonomous, a company that specializes in smart delivery solutions and autonomous aerial logistics technologies.
During the trial, a drone with a robotic arm transported a parcel from Al Samha to KIZAD, using an advanced navigation system that ensured accurate and efficient delivery.
Supporting Smart Mobility in Abu Dhabi
This trial is part of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) strategy to make Abu Dhabi a leading hub for smart mobility. ITC is working to adopt advanced transport systems that improve service efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and the quality of life across the emirate.
Regulating Drone Operations
The ITC also manages drone operations through the Unified National Platform for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). This platform allows for faster approvals while ensuring safety, legal compliance, privacy, and airspace protection.
LODD Autonomous Develops Advanced Drones
LODD Autonomous introduced updates on its hybrid autonomous aircraft, “Hili”, which has VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) capability. It can carry up to 250 kilograms over 300 kilometres, powered by a combination of electric motors and an internal combustion engine.
The aircraft does not require traditional infrastructure like airports, making it suitable for medium-range air cargo delivery. This technology aims to link logistics hubs, improve supply chain efficiency, and support the growth of the logistics sector in the region.
ITC Highlights Benefits of Drone Delivery
Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of the ITC, said the drone trial shows Abu Dhabi’s commitment to adopting the latest transport and logistics innovations. He emphasized that such initiatives help build a smart, sustainable transport ecosystem and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s global position.
LODD Autonomous CEO Comments
Rashed Matar Al Manai, CEO of LODD Autonomous, stated that drones improve delivery speed and efficiency, addressing the growing demand of e-commerce and supply chains. With drones, parcels can be delivered in a few hours, compared to several days using traditional methods.
Future of Drone Logistics
The successful trial demonstrates that autonomous drones can play a key role in the future of logistics and transport. By combining advanced technology, safety, and efficiency, Abu Dhabi is positioning itself as a leader in smart and sustainable transport solutions.
