ADU Leads the Way in Inclusion and Accessibility Initiatives

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) proudly concludes its Inclusion Advocates of Tomorrow programme, designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to promote accessibility and social inclusion. This initiative, organized by ADU Innovate in collaboration with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, and Key2Enable, aims to merge innovation with inclusive education practices.

In the past year, over 100 students at ADU participated in a comprehensive program that seamlessly integrated theoretical learning with practical applications. They learned about inclusive design principles, accessibility standards, and assistive technologies, along with engaging in field visits to the Zayed Authority to see these solutions implemented in educational contexts.

The curriculum provided invaluable hands-on experience with assistive tools such as adaptive keyboards and specialized educational software from Key2Enable, enabling learners to comprehend and tackle the unique challenges faced by People of Determination. In conjunction, the Community Volunteering Activation Program (CVAP) by Ma’an invited students to take part in activities that foster inclusion across communities, demonstrating how collaborative initiatives can lead to meaningful change.

This initiative by ADU not only promotes inclusive innovation but also builds on the university’s pledge to cultivate educational environments where all abilities are acknowledged and appreciated. Those trained through this program are now better prepared to develop solutions that eliminate barriers, enhancing the accessibility and fairness of educational and community settings.

By spearheading such initiatives, Abu Dhabi University reinforces its role as a center of inclusion and innovation, inspiring the next generation of leaders to advocate for accessibility, understanding, and social advancement across all areas of life.
