Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is proud to announce the launch of the Abu Dhabi University Cancer Research Institute (ADU-CRI), marking a significant advancement in the UAE's healthcare infrastructure. This pioneering institute aims to foster cutting-edge cancer research, enabling personalized treatment initiatives that bridge academia and medical practice.
The launch ceremony, hosted at ADU’s Innovation Center, gathered prominent university officials, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi representatives, and key players from the healthcare and research sectors. This momentous occasion aligns with ADU’s commitment to scientific innovation and educational excellence, resonating with the national We the UAE 2031 vision.
Through the establishment of ADU-CRI, the university is positioned to evolve into a vital hub for cancer research that translates academic insights into practical clinical solutions. The institute focuses on streamlining translational research, ensuring that breakthroughs in science are effectively integrated into healthcare environments. Collaboration across researchers, clinicians, governmental agencies, and industry partners is central to addressing the most pressing cancer-related issues in the region.
ADU-CRI encompasses five specialized research divisions: genomics and bioinformatics, biomarker research, drug discovery and development, biosensors and bioengineering, and public health research. Each division tackles key elements of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach.
To facilitate advanced research, the institute is outfitted with cutting-edge laboratory technologies including flow cytometry, Luminex systems, quantitative PCR, sequencing platforms, and specialized tissue culture facilities. These advances empower researchers to conduct preclinical and clinical studies, specifically targeting cancer areas prioritized by UAE health authorities. A dedicated bioengineering lab enhances efforts in biosensor technology, data interpretation, and next-generation medical research.
ADU-CRI has established strategic partnerships with leading healthcare and research entities throughout Abu Dhabi, resulting in numerous active collaborations. Current projects include clinical studies aimed at optimizing breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, advanced analysis using biobanked samples, and innovative research programs focusing on personalized cancer medicine.
Ongoing investigations at the institute explore biomarkers linked to triple-negative breast cancer, liquid biopsy methods for early lung cancer detection, and genetic determinants influencing cancer metastasis. Collectively, these initiatives strive to improve early diagnosis, refine treatment options, and inform evidence-based healthcare strategies in the UAE.
