Dubai – The Annual Meetings of the Global Future Councils and Cybersecurity 2025 witnessed a gathering of global experts, hosted by the UAE Government in collaboration with the World Economic Forum. The discussions revolved around the increasing risks posed by cyber threats and highlighted the pivotal role of AI and cybersecurity in safeguarding nations and organizations. The session, aptly named “Riding out Cyber Storms,” showcased the urgent need for strategic approaches amid rapid technological change and intricate geopolitical challenges.
Experts agreed that the integration of AI and cybersecurity is fundamental for the protection of critical infrastructure, sensitive information, and national interests. Dario Leandro Genua, Secretary of Innovation, Science, and Technology of Argentina, observed that while adversaries exploit these technologies for advantage, defenders must implement AI and cybersecurity solutions judiciously, ensuring a balance between agility and risk mitigation. Joe Levy, CEO of Sophos, UK, advocated for a collaborative approach across infrastructure, governance, and operational frameworks to enhance resilience against sophisticated cyber threats.
Panel members emphasized that fostering a culture of vigilance through AI and cybersecurity is essential for effective collaboration between public and private sectors. Kemba Eneas Walden, President of the Paladin Global Institute, USA, illustrated how advancements in AI and cybersecurity, alongside quantum computing, present both opportunities and risks. She pointed to Estonia's example, demonstrating how even smaller nations can effectively harness these technologies for robust defense despite historical hurdles.
The conversation also delved into the interconnected geopolitical landscape of cyber threats. Experts highlighted the significance of AI and cybersecurity in addressing risks posed by international tensions, the use of cross-border technology, and decentralized adversaries. The interplay of AI and cybersecurity has the potential to enhance defense capabilities while simultaneously introducing new vulnerabilities, challenging established deterrence and insurance models. Participants accentuated the importance of prioritizing investments in these areas for nations and corporations seeking to protect sensitive data and ensure operational resilience in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
With attendance from over 700 experts across 93 countries, the UAE-hosted discussions reinforced that AI and cybersecurity are no longer optional but essential to maintaining resilience. Experts called for improved training, international cooperation, and significant investments in AI and cybersecurity infrastructure to thwart the emerging digital threats facing societies and economies, thus safeguarding future generations.
In light of the escalating cyber risks that coincide with AI advancements, experts concluded that prioritizing AI and cybersecurity is crucial for global stability. They underscored the pressing need for coordinated efforts and innovative strategies to secure both digital and physical realms.
