The eagerly awaited Telugu film Akhanda 2, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has been postponed indefinitely, just days before its planned worldwide release on December 5. The production team at 14 Reels Plus cited inevitable legal complications as the primary reason for this unexpected delay, leaving fans and industry insiders feeling let down.
The film, featuring prominent actors Samyuktha and Harshaali Malhotra, was scheduled for paid premieres on December 4, but those were canceled amid confusion surrounding ticket sales in the Nizam region. Additionally, the required Overseas Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) for digital exhibitions were not cleared, leading to further setbacks in distribution.
14 Reels Plus expressed their regrets in an official statement:
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce #Akhanda2 will not release as originally planned due to unavoidable circumstances. We understand how disappointing this is for our fans and all movie lovers. We are doing our utmost to resolve these issues promptly and apologize sincerely for any inconvenience this may cause. Your support is invaluable to us, and we aim to provide a positive update soon."
In Tamil Nadu, the film was met with a legal obstacle after the Madras High Court granted an injunction to Eros International Media Limited, which halted the film's release and distribution. This ruling stems from an ongoing arbitration dispute involving 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited, with claims amounting to around Rs 28 crore. Eros asserted that the film’s release via 14 Reels Plus LLP was an effort to sidestep the arbitral mandate.
Financial issues have been reported as a contributing factor to this sudden decision. Although delays are not unusual in Telugu cinema, the last-minute postponement of a significant project like Akhanda 2 has left fans longing for news of a new release date.
