Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority is set to host the Al Ain Heritage Festival 2026 from January 31 to February 9 at the ADNEC Centre in Al Ain. The event's theme will be “Tales from Our Heritage.”
His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized that the festival embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, placing the preservation of Emirati heritage as a national priority. The festival aims to link youth and children with their rich history while aiding farmers, artisans, and craft practitioners in safeguarding their legacies for future generations.
Recognized as a pivotal cultural and tourism hub, Al Ain will showcase its historic Emirati heritage through this festival, drawing visitors from across the UAE and beyond. The event will also bolster small business owners, artisans, and productive families by providing avenues to market and sell their creations – a step towards transforming traditional crafts into sustainable economic ventures.
A major attraction will be the Date Festival, spotlighting the cultural significance of the date palm in Emirati and global traditions. Attendees can look forward to educational displays, tastings, and cultural exchanges across various sections, including the Date Market, which will feature 50 outlets. Eight date competitions will be conducted, covering varieties such as Elite Al Ain, Khalas, Shishi, Zamli, Boumaan, Dabbas, Fard, and Wahat.
The festival will also present the rich heritage of the Arab world, giving GCC and Arab nations a platform to showcase their traditional arts, cuisines, and crafts. Special pavilions will represent these countries, emphasizing their diverse yet unified cultural identities.
Attendees can immerse themselves in the ambiance of a traditional Emirati Freej (neighborhood), with a heritage village portraying the essence of ancient Al Ain homes, markets, and community spaces. This interactive experience will highlight daily life and the social morals that defined the local culture.
A unique feature will be the Visual Journey through History, guiding visitors along a timeline that begins in the desert environment, travels through traditional marketplaces and festivities, and culminates in modern advancements, all presented through state-of-the-art light and sound exhibitions.
The Honey Village is another highlight, dedicated to beekeeping heritage while showcasing local and Gulf honey varieties, offering tasting sessions and educational workshops. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with artisans through traditional crafts like Sadu weaving, palm frond weaving, Talli embroidery, Dallah making, and making traditional jewelry.
The Outdoor Performance Arena will bring traditional Emirati activities to life, featuring falconry displays and Arabian Saluki shows, which hold significant historical value in Bedouin culture. Cooking demonstrations and daily culinary competitions will showcase Emirati and Gulf dishes, intertwining food with cultural narratives.
The main stage will host a variety of daily programs, including folk performances, poetry nights, theater presentations, and screenings of heritage films, all aimed at celebrating Emirati and Arab cultural expressions.
Families and children can enjoy interactive and educational activities, such as the Heritage Visitor Passport, virtual reality experiences, and hands-on workshops. These initiatives will strive to instill heritage knowledge in the younger generation through enjoyable and modern approaches.
