The Women’s Race, held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, marked a successful 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.
This thrilling 93 km race drew elite female cyclists from around the UAE and internationally, featuring an impressive prize purse of AED 460,000. The event provided an exhilarating competition in the scenic Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.
Lorena Wiebes from the Dubai Police/Esaad team emerged as the champion, showcasing a tactical and powerful performance, along with a prize of AED 100,000. Her teammate, Femke Markus, secured second place and AED 70,000, while Nina Kessler from Dubai Residence Cycling Club A achieved third, earning AED 50,000.
In the team standings, Dubai Police/Esaad finished first, followed by Dubai Residence Cycling Club A and Dubai Residence Cycling Club B in second and third, respectively.
In the Emirati Women’s Over-40 category, Mouza Al Mansoori took first place. Meanwhile, Yulia Polevaya from Airwerks Team 1 led the Open Women’s Over-40 category.
The race commenced at the Al Qudra Endurance Village in Saih Al Salam, passing through notable landmarks before concluding at the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The event received widespread coverage on television and digital platforms globally.
The event was officially started by Mohammed Al-Mousa, a member of the Supreme Organising Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, offered his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his unwavering support. He commended the impressive female participation and noted that the championship aims to inspire more athletes to engage in future competitions.
He further emphasized that two of the races in this year's edition are focused on women, aligning with Dubai’s commitment to advancing women’s sports and empowering female athletes.
The Al Salam Cycling Championship is organized in collaboration with key partners including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Government of Dubai Media Office, UAE Cycling Federation, and Dubai Sports Channel.
Upcoming desert races for both men and women are scheduled for January 31 and February 1, with additional events to be announced shortly.
