Aneet Padda Takes the Lead in Maddock's Shakti Shalini

Post by : Meena Hassan

After much speculation regarding the female lead for Shakti Shalini, the latest offering from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), the suspense has lifted. It has been officially confirmed that Aneet Padda, renowned for her performance in Saiyaara, will take on the leading role.

The reveal took place in an exciting manner, as the debut teaser of Shakti Shalini premiered in cinemas with the release of Thamma, the highly anticipated Diwali film featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Ayushmann Khurrana Extends a Warm Welcome to Aneet

Adding to the excitement, Ayushmann Khurrana expressed his welcoming sentiments for Aneet via Instagram. His heartfelt message read,

“Welcome to the MHCU, @aneetpadda! From one dreamer to another – keep chasing what you desire. Nothing is out of reach. Proud to see a fellow Punjabi excelling. Can’t wait to watch you shine in Shakti Shalini! Forward and upward, Aneet.”

This message not only demonstrated the camaraderie within the Maddock team but also highlighted the increasing representation of Punjabi talent in mainstream Bollywood.

In addition, Ayushmann shared his excitement over Thamma being his first Diwali release, expressing that participating in a festive film release has been a long-held dream.

“When my producer Dinesh Vijan mentioned Thamma would be released during Diwali, I was ecstatic, as it was always a dream of mine,” Ayushmann said.

He then added,

“Thamma is a major milestone in my career, and I’m lucky to have its release coincide with Diwali. Each year, I would go to theaters to watch a star’s film release; now, I get to watch my own film with family. It’s surreal!”

Thamma, directed by Amar Kaushik, marks a significant entry into the MHCU, already generating excitement for its unique blend of supernatural elements and humor—a hallmark of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe that started with films like Stree and Bhediya.

Director Amar Kaushik, known for directing successful titles like Stree and Bala, discussed the decision to cast Aneet in Shakti Shalini, explaining that they were in search of someone fresh yet expressive—someone capable of delivering both fear and laughter simultaneously.

“Aneet has an extraordinary screen presence and raw dynamism that aligns perfectly with Shakti Shalini's tone. We wanted a performer who could convince viewers of the horror while keeping them amused amidst the chaos. After witnessing her in Saiyaara, we recognized her potential,” said Kaushik.

He also hinted that Shakti Shalini would incorporate a strong female-driven storyline, adding a fresh aspect to the evolving Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.

Shakti Shalini is set to be another exciting chapter in Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU)—a cinematic endeavor that interlinks supernatural narratives with witty humor strongly rooted in Indian folklore.

Beginning with Stree (2018), featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, followed by Roohi (2021) and Bhediya (2022), each film has woven intricate narratives into the MHCU, paving the way for possible future crossovers.

With Shakti Shalini, the franchise is introducing a new female lead, promising engaging storytelling that intertwines empowerment, mythology, and comedy—crafted with Maddock's signature quirky style.

Industry insiders suggest that Aneet’s role may link to characters from earlier films within the universe, though specific details are being kept tightly under wraps.

Aneet Padda gained widespread recognition following her stellar performance in Saiyaara, where her emotional range and strong screen presence captivated audiences. Her entrance into the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe marks a significant leap in her professional journey.

Emerging from a Punjabi entertainment background, Aneet symbolizes a rising wave of youthful, multilingual talent making strides in pan-Indian cinema. Fans and critics are keenly anticipating how she will infuse her charisma and intensity into the realm of supernatural comedy.

With Ayushmann Khurrana's Diwali release Thamma attracting large audiences and Aneet Padda stepping into Shakti Shalini, Maddock Films is reinforcing its dominance in India's horror-comedy genre.

As film enthusiasts look forward to the release, Shakti Shalini is shaping up to offer another thrilling, humor-filled yet eerie journey—potentially redefining the blend of horror and humor for Indian viewers.
