Syria Reports Israeli Drone Strike

Syria reported on Saturday that an Israeli drone strike near the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights wounded one person. Syrian state television said the strike targeted a vehicle in the village of Beit Jinn, located southwest of Damascus.

The reported attack comes amid continuing tensions between Israel and Syria. The Israeli military was contacted about the incident and said it was checking the reports.

Strike Reported Near Beit Jinn

According to Syrian state television, one person was injured when an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle in Beit Jinn. The report did not immediately provide further details about the identity of the person or the extent of the injuries.

The incident occurred in an area that has become increasingly sensitive since political and military changes in Syria. The region lies relatively close to the Golan Heights, an area at the centre of longstanding Syrian-Israeli tensions.

Israel Says It Is Checking Reports

The Israeli military had not immediately confirmed the strike when contacted by AFP. It said it was checking the reports surrounding the incident.

The lack of an immediate Israeli confirmation means details about the target and circumstances of the reported strike remain unclear. Further information could emerge as authorities investigate the incident.

Israeli Military Activity in Syria

Since the overthrow of longtime Syrian ruler Bashar Assad in December 2024, Israel has carried out hundreds of reported strikes inside Syria. Israeli forces have also moved into a UN-patrolled buffer zone that had separated Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights for decades.

Israel has also conducted incursions farther into Syrian territory and has said it intends to maintain troops in a security zone in southern Syria. Israeli officials have linked the policy to preventing hostile forces from establishing positions near its border.

Israel Cites Border Security Concerns

Earlier this week, Israeli army chief Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir told troops operating in southern Syria that Israel was monitoring developments on the Syrian front. He said Israel would not allow hostile forces to establish themselves along its borders.

The latest reported strike therefore comes at a time when Israel is maintaining a strong military presence around southern Syria and the Golan Heights. The developments could add to regional concerns over further escalation.
