Australian PM Visits Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi

Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi along with his partner Jodie Haydon. The visit highlighted the significance of cultural exchange and strengthened diplomatic ties between Australia and the UAE. The Australian delegation was accompanied by key officials including Fahad Obaid Al Taffaq, UAE Ambassador to Australia, and Ridwan Joudat, Australian Ambassador to the UAE.

Guided Tour by Mosque Authorities

During the visit, Dr. Yousif Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, guided the Prime Minister and his delegation through the mosque’s expansive halls, courtyards, and prayer areas. He shared insights into the history of the mosque’s establishment and its role as a landmark symbolizing coexistence, tolerance, and openness, inspired by the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Cultural and Architectural Insights

Cultural tour specialist Rawda Al Marzouqi provided a detailed explanation of the mosque’s architectural and artistic elements. He illustrated how Islamic civilisations across centuries contributed to its design, blending diverse artistic traditions into a harmonious architectural masterpiece. The mosque reflects the UAE’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and creativity through architectural expression.

Visit to Sheikh Zayed’s Mausoleum

The Prime Minister and his delegation also visited the mausoleum of the late Sheikh Zayed, paying tribute to his wisdom and vision for peace and tolerance. The mausoleum visit reinforced the UAE’s message of coexistence and the enduring impact of Sheikh Zayed’s leadership on national and international cultural dialogue.

Commemorative Gifts and Publications

During the visit, Prime Minister Albanese received a commemorative gift inspired by the mosque’s chandeliers, symbolizing its artistic beauty. He was also presented with a copy of “Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: Lights of Peace,” a publication that showcases the mosque’s architecture and artistic grandeur through award-winning photographs from the “Spaces of Light” competition.

This visit highlights the importance of cultural diplomacy and mutual understanding between nations. By exploring the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Australian Prime Minister gained insights into Islamic heritage, the UAE’s cultural initiatives, and the values of peace and tolerance that continue to guide the country.
