AROYA Cruises Expands to Mediterranean with Saudi Culture

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

AROYA Cruises is the first Arab cruise line operated by Cruise Saudi, a company fully owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The cruise line is designed to provide integrated tourism experiences with a cultural touch that reflects the identity of Saudi Arabia. It is part of the Kingdom’s plan to increase its presence in global marine tourism and attract more international visitors.

Inaugural Voyage and Luxury Facilities

The cruise ship AROYA started its first journey from Jeddah Islamic Port on December 16, 2024, in the Red Sea. The ship is like a floating resort, with 19 decks and a capacity to host 3,362 passengers. It has 1,678 cabins and suites that showcase Saudi hospitality and luxury living. Every corner of the ship is designed to make passengers feel comfortable while enjoying Saudi culture.

Expansion to the Mediterranean Sea

This summer, AROYA expanded its services to the Mediterranean Sea. Its first voyage in this region started on June 28, 2025, from Galataport in Istanbul. The cruise traveled to Athens, Mykonos, Souda Bay, and Bodrum. The Mediterranean sailings are planned through mid-September 2025. The routes last six to seven nights and cover popular destinations in Türkiye, Greece, and Egypt, including Alexandria.

Showcasing Saudi Culture on Board

AROYA Cruises brings Saudi culture to its passengers through interior design and a unique cultural atmosphere across all its facilities. The ship has 12 restaurants and 17 cafés. These offer food from five continents while also highlighting authentic Saudi flavors. Passengers can enjoy a mix of global cuisine along with dishes that show the Kingdom’s culinary traditions.

Introduction of Saudi Cuisine at Sea

In partnership with the Culinary Arts Commission, AROYA introduced Irth, the first Saudi restaurant at sea. This restaurant allows passengers to taste authentic Saudi dishes during their journey. Additionally, the ship offers camel milk products from “Noug,” created in collaboration with Sawani. These unique offerings give passengers a genuine taste of Saudi culture and food traditions.

Entertainment and Activities for All Ages

Passengers on AROYA Cruises enjoy many entertainment options. The ship has 20 facilities for fun and relaxation. It includes the largest kids’ area on any cruise ship, covering 1,800 square meters. There is a theater that can seat 1,018 people for shows and performances. The ship also has a shopping area inspired by traditional markets, a sports complex with football and basketball courts, a jogging track, and a full wellness center for relaxation and fitness.

Luxury Suites and Exclusive Villas

A special part of the ship is the "Khuzama" area. This area has 145 suites and 9 exclusive villas. The largest villas are 395 square meters and offer high-end services for passengers who want extra luxury. These suites and villas provide privacy, comfort, and a premium experience on board, making the cruise memorable for guests.

Observing Saudi Social and Cultural Values

AROYA Cruises pays attention to Saudi social and cultural traditions. The ship has prayer areas for passengers and allocates specific hours in the spas for women. These features reflect the values of Saudi society and ensure that passengers experience comfort and respect for local traditions throughout their journey.

Supporting Saudi Vision 2030

The expansion of AROYA Cruises into the Mediterranean Sea less than a year after its Red Sea debut shows strong growth. It strengthens Saudi Arabia’s presence in global cruise destinations. This growth supports the Saudi Vision 2030 goals, which include economic diversification and the development of tourism infrastructure. By investing in tourism and luxury cruise services, Saudi Arabia is working to become a leading global tourist destination.

Economic and Tourism Benefits

AROYA Cruises contributes to the local economy by attracting international tourists and creating new jobs in tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors. It provides an opportunity for passengers to explore Saudi culture and heritage while traveling in comfort and luxury. This cruise line is a clear example of how strategic investment in tourism can boost the economy and promote Saudi Arabia’s global image.

AROYA Cruises as a Model of Saudi Innovation

The cruise line represents Saudi Arabia’s ambition to combine luxury travel with cultural experiences. It is a floating showcase of the Kingdom’s culture, hospitality, and modern tourism infrastructure. By providing world-class services while maintaining cultural authenticity, AROYA Cruises sets a standard for marine tourism in the region.

Future Prospects and Expansion Plans

With its successful launch and early expansion, AROYA Cruises is expected to continue growing. More routes in Europe, the Mediterranean, and possibly other global destinations are likely in the future. These developments will enhance Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector, attract international travelers, and contribute to the overall goals of Vision 2030.

A Cultural and Luxury Journey

AROYA Cruises combines luxury, culture, and entertainment, offering passengers a unique experience at sea. From its Red Sea debut to its Mediterranean expansion, the cruise line reflects Saudi Arabia’s identity and its commitment to tourism growth. It is an example of how Saudi Arabia is diversifying its economy, investing in global tourism, and sharing its rich culture with the world.
