Ayodhya Witnesses Historic Inauguration of Brihaspati Kund and South Indian Saints’ Statues

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Ayodhya, one of India’s most historic and sacred cities, witnessed a grand and memorable event on October 8, 2025. The city saw the inauguration of the Brihaspati Kund at Tehdi Bazaar intersection, along with the unveiling of statues of renowned South Indian saints. The ceremony was graced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who participated in the celebrations and paid homage to the saints.

The Brihaspati Kund has now become an important spiritual and cultural landmark in the city. Considered one of the 108 ancient sacred sites of Ayodhya, the kund holds religious significance mentioned in various scriptures. The new installation aims to attract devotees and visitors while serving as a hub of faith, devotion, and cultural heritage.

Inauguration Ceremony and Cultural Celebrations

The event was marked by the unveiling of statues of three prominent South Indian saints: Sant Purandar Das, Sant Tyagaraja, and Sant Arunachal Kavi. These figures are celebrated for their contributions to music, literature, and spiritual teachings in South India. Their statues symbolize a cultural bridge between North and South India, highlighting unity and shared heritage.

After the inauguration, cultural performances by artists from South India were held, showcasing classical music, dance, and devotional presentations. These performances reflected the rich traditions of both regions and created an atmosphere of devotion, celebration, and learning for all attendees.

Political and Administrative Participation

The event drew attention from top leaders and officials. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was welcomed by UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and other senior state leaders. Several BJP leaders, government officials, and local representatives also attended the ceremony.

The Tehdi Bazaar intersection has been renamed Nishadraj Chauraha, and a grand statue of Nishadraj has been installed. The renaming and statue installation highlight the historical and cultural importance of the area. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the unveiling, emphasizing the city’s rich heritage and religious prominence.

Significance of Brihaspati Kund and Statues

The Brihaspati Kund is expected to become a center of devotion, attracting both local and national pilgrims. By establishing statues of South Indian saints, the project celebrates the diversity and richness of Indian culture. The kund and statues together aim to strengthen spiritual learning, promote cultural exchange, and inspire unity among citizens.

The event also included special rituals and prayers at the Ram Temple complex. Both the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister offered their respects, underscoring the importance of the occasion.

A Cultural Bridge

The Brihaspati Kund and the newly unveiled statues represent a unique cultural connection between North and South India. This initiative not only enhances Ayodhya’s spiritual landscape but also promotes the city as a hub for cultural harmony and heritage tourism. Visitors can experience devotional practices, appreciate South Indian cultural elements, and gain a deeper understanding of India’s diverse traditions.
