Actress Bhoomi Shetty has been confirmed to portray the title role in the upcoming film Mahakali, directed by Puja Kolluru. The picture is a key entry in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) after the success of Teja Sajja’s HanuMan.
The production team released the first look of Bhoomi as Mahakali, presenting a bold new appearance that has drawn attention from PVCU audiences.
From Regional TV to a Lead Film Role
Originally from Kundapura, Karnataka, Bhoomi Shetty is the daughter of Bhaskar and Baby Shetty. She is fluent in Kannada and Tulu and has formal training in Yakshagana, the traditional theatre form of coastal Karnataka.
She began her career on Kannada television with the series Kinnari, where she played the lead character Mani. In 2018 she transitioned to Telugu television with Zee Telugu’s Ninne Pelladatha, portraying Mrudula.
In 2019, Bhoomi appeared as a contestant on Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, hosted by Kichcha Sudeepa, and finished as the fourth runner-up, earning notice for her composed on-screen presence.
Moving into Films
Bhoomi made her Kannada film debut in Ikkat (2021), a comedy directed by Haseen Khan and Esham Khan opposite Nagabhushana; the film is available on Amazon Prime Video.
She also had a brief role in the Telugu serial Attarintlo Akka Chellelu and later entered Telugu cinema with Sharathulu Varthisthai alongside Chaitanya Rao Madadi. While the film received mixed reviews, reviewers commended Bhoomi’s screen presence and emotional range.
Most recently, she played Gauri, the wife of Satyadev’s character, in Kingdom starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, where her performance contributed to the film’s emotional depth.
