In an exciting development, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the beloved stars of The Mummy movies, are coming back for a fourth installment. Fraser expressed his passion for the project, noting it as “the one I wanted to make” and shared that he has been eagerly awaiting this moment for almost 20 years.
“The project I longed for never materialized… But now, it's on the way. I’ve been anticipating this call for two full decades. Sometimes the desire was loud, other times subtle. Now? It’s our chance to deliver what fans have been waiting for,” Fraser mentioned.
The new film will be helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence. Fraser first embarked on this franchise journey back in 1999, revitalizing an old Universal character into an exhilarating action series. The saga expanded rapidly, featuring stars like Dwayne Johnson and various spin-offs, but hit a pause after Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). A potential reboot with Tom Cruise almost materialized a decade later but ultimately fell through.
Reflecting on his past experiences, Fraser reminisced about his time filming George of the Jungle. “Those days carry a lot of sweet memories. I also recall feeling quite hungry at the time,” he chuckled while reminiscing about an old picture with Leslie Mann and the Tookie Tookie bird. He humorously acknowledged Mann’s wit and the bird’s sharp claws.
In discussing more recent projects, Fraser lauded young actress Sadie Sink, saying, “Oh gosh, that’s me and Sadie Sink. I feel fortunate to have collaborated with such a talented actress early in her career… She’s absolutely fantastic.”
He also described the unique experience of filming Rental Family on a functioning train, referring to it as a “whirlwind of activity,” where extras mingled with regular train passengers, dubbing the movie “a love letter to loneliness” inspired by Tokyo's cherry blossom season.
