Charges Filed Against Indian National in 2017 Double Murder Linked to Laptop DNA

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a shocking development, Nazeer Hameed, a 43-year-old Indian national, has been charged over the 2017 murders of Sasikala Narra and her six-year-old son Anish in their New Jersey residence. The connection stemmed from DNA evidence gathered from Hameed's work laptop, leading US authorities to target him after years of investigation.

Critical Evidence Unveiled

The case dates back to March 23, 2017, when Hanu Narra returned home to find his wife and son brutally murdered. Autopsies revealed defensive wounds on the victims, suggesting a fierce struggle. Authorities collected various blood samples from the crime scene, with one sample being a pivotal lead despite not matching the victims.

Initial investigations pointed to Hameed, who previously faced stalking allegations against Narra and resided in close proximity to the crime scene. Following the gruesome event, he returned to India while maintaining his job at Cognizant Technologies, cleverly avoiding prosecution.

Technological Breakthrough in Investigations

After years of pursuit, investigators secured a court order in 2024 for Hameed’s company laptop, which yielded a matching DNA profile to the unidentified blood sample from the murder scene. This evidence underscores the significance of technological advancements in solving cold cases that bridge international boundaries.

Understanding the Allegations

While Hameed's exact motive remains unclear, preliminary findings indicate he may have had a personal grievance against Hanu Narra. US officials are currently working with the Department of Justice to extradite Hameed from India to face charges, ensuring he is held accountable for his alleged actions.

Patrick Thornton, Chief of Investigations at the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, remarked on the case's significance, noting that technological innovation, along with persistence and international collaboration, played key roles in seeking justice for the Narra family.

A Reflection of International Justice

This case exemplifies the impact of digital evidence in contemporary criminal investigations and highlights the intricate path to justice across borders. As families often endure prolonged waiting periods, breakthroughs like this serve as a beacon of hope for resolving even the most entrenched cold cases.

As the extradition process unfolds, the case of Sasikala and Anish Narra remains a powerful reminder of the determination needed for justice and the progressive tools available to law enforcement in our interconnected global landscape.
