OpenAI Adds App Support to ChatGPT for Easy Daily Tasks

OpenAI Adds App Support to ChatGPT for Easy Daily Tasks

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

OpenAI has launched a new feature that allows users to access third-party applications directly within ChatGPT. This update turns ChatGPT into a productivity hub, enabling users to complete tasks with the help of external apps while chatting.

How the New Feature Works

Users can open compatible applications during conversations. ChatGPT provides context, reasoning, and guidance, while the app performs specific actions. At launch, supported apps include Canva, Booking.com, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow. More apps like DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, and Uber will be added soon.

Benefits for Users

The integration allows users to perform everyday tasks without leaving the chat interface. For example, users can create a poster in Canva and then ask ChatGPT to generate a presentation using Figma. Flight searches via Expedia and home listings through Zillow are also possible within ChatGPT.

Developer Support and SDK

OpenAI has released a Software Development Kit (SDK) to let developers build experimental apps. Later this year, developers can submit their apps for review and inclusion in a dedicated directory. This will allow users to browse, install, and use new tools directly inside ChatGPT.

Security and Privacy

OpenAI emphasized that user privacy is a top priority. When connecting an app, ChatGPT shows clear prompts explaining what data is shared and why. Users can control which information is accessible to each application.

The feature will gradually become available to users outside the European Union on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. Availability in the EU will follow later in the year.

This move reflects OpenAI’s vision of transforming ChatGPT from a text-based assistant into a "chatable" platform. By connecting users, developers, and external services, the company aims to create a unified workspace where tasks, learning, and creativity happen seamlessly in one place.
