Christmas typically embodies joy and togetherness, but this year it held a poignant sense of remembrance for Samaira and Kiaan, the children of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur and actress Karisma Kapoor. Tragically, Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, at the age of 53 after collapsing during a match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, UK. Subsequent reports indicated that he suffered an anaphylactic shock after an accidental bee sting inside his mouth. His unexpected demise sent shockwaves through the realms of business, athletics, and beyond.
Sunjay’s personal life attracted considerable media attention. Initially wed to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, he later married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, welcoming Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2010. After enduring a protracted legal separation, they finalized their split in 2016. In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son named Azarius.
Following Sunjay Kapur’s passing, a legal dispute surfaced regarding his substantial estate. Karisma Kapoor approached the Delhi High Court, asserting that Sunjay’s will had been forged—claims that Priya Sachdev’s legal team vehemently denied. Concerns were also raised by Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, over the potential concealment of her son’s financial assets. The Delhi High Court recently concluded hearings in this case, reserving its decision, which will determine the future course of the inheritance battle.
