Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai — In a pivotal moment for cultural exchange, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, engaged in discussions with Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henni, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, during the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025).

The inaugural event, hosted by Dubai, marked a significant gathering for the Middle Eastern, African, and South Asian regions, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. In attendance were also Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State; Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture; and Muna Faisal Al Gurg, CEO of the Museums and Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture.

During their meeting, Sheikha Latifa praised Dr. Henni on the recent opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, referring to it as a “premier cultural and civilizational landmark.” She emphasized its dual role as both a storage of historical artifacts and a lively center for cultural dialogue, education, and research.

According to her, the Grand Egyptian Museum sets a new standard for museums internationally, acting as a venue for intercultural exchange while affirming Egypt's leadership in the stewardship of global heritage.

The two leaders also deliberated over future collaborations, contemplating joint initiatives in the arts, museums, and heritage fields, alongside the sharing of expertise regarding the preservation of antiquities. They recognized the importance of knowledge exchange among cultural institutions to enhance understanding and foster connections between countries.

This meeting reiterated a mutual dedication to cultural diplomacy, showcasing the aspirations of both Dubai and Egypt to elevate their heritage institutions as premier centers for learning, research, and intercultural dialogue.
