Dozens Injured in Czech Republic Train Collision

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Early Thursday morning, a train crash in the Czech Republic injured 57 individuals, with at least five suffering serious injuries. The incident involved a collision between two passenger trains near Ceske Budejovice in southern Czech Republic.

The collision happened around 6:20 am local time, about 74 miles south of Prague. One of the trains was an express service. Fire and rescue teams quickly arrived, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers from both trains.

Medical facilities in Ceske Budejovice reported five patients with serious injuries, while others had minor injuries treated on-site or at local hospitals.

According to Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka, early investigations indicate that one train may have ignored a stop signal, potentially contributing to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Rail services between Ceske Budejovice and Plzen have been disrupted. Authorities have announced service suspension in the area until at least the afternoon as crews work to clear the tracks and resume operations.

Local officials and emergency responders are actively assisting passengers and digging into the cause of this tragic incident. Travelers in the vicinity are encouraged to check for updates prior to travel.
