Dakota Johnson Steps into Directing with A Tree is Blue

Post by : Meena Hassan

Dakota Johnson, renowned for her role in Materialists, is making her directorial debut with A Tree is Blue. This feature film, which she has written and reportedly stars her Cha Cha Real Smooth co-star Vanessa Burghardt, is set to start production next month in Los Angeles.

Details about the plot remain undisclosed, but the movie has already sparked interest due to its potential cast. British singer Charli XCX and Hollywood icon Jessica Alba are currently in talks to join the project.

Johnson previously directed the short film Loser Baby, which was showcased at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. She recently appeared alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal in Materialists and is expected to star in the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity alongside Anne Hathaway.

Jessica Alba, who was recently seen in Netflix’s Trigger Warning as both producer and star, will next appear in the sports biopic Maserati: The Brothers, sharing the screen with Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Al Pacino. Furthermore, Charli XCX, a Grammy-winning musician, not only plans to produce and star in The Moment but has also contributed music to the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

With a combination of well-known actors and emerging talent, Johnson's directorial debut stands as one of the most awaited films of the upcoming year.
